MY DEAD FRIEND ZOE is a dark comedy-drama that follows the journey of Merit (Sonequa Martin-Green), a U.S. Army veteran of Afghanistan. She is at odds with her family over the journey of Zoe (Natalie Morales), her deceased best friend. Despite the persistence of her VA counselor (Morgan Freeman), the tough love of her mother (Gloria Reuben), and the levity of an unexpected love interest, Merit’s cozy and dysfunctional friendship with Zoe keeps the duo isolated from the world. . Until Merit’s estranged grandfather (Ed Harris), who has been at the family’s ancestral lake house, starts to get lost and needs the one thing he refuses to give up… help. At its core, this is a buddy movie about complicated friendships, a divided family, and the complicated ways we deal with grief.
